First Firefighter level 1 Certification Completer

On Monday January 27, 2014 after years of planning and preparation the first class of Fire Science kicked off at 8am. This was a big first for the CRTC as this program is very different from any of our others. Students were responsible  for providing their own transportation to and from class which was held at different fire houses as well as the New Hampshire Fire Academy.

Class met daily from 8-11, and unlike our other classes had more than one instructor. Each instructor for the course is a certified NHFA instructor and instructed the class in their areas of expertise. Students put in a lot of hard work and even had an overnight at the NHFA and slept in the cadet dorms.

On Tuesday of this week students took a written exam the first of two steps for them to obtain their Firefighter Level 1 certification.  On Thursday they then took the practical version of the exam. Students needed to pass both in order to receive their Firefighter Level 1 Certification. We received word that Stephanie Lazotte at 17 years old was our first student finished and passed both sections making her the first student in our program to receive her certification. We could not be more proud of her as well as the class for all the hard work they have put in over the past five months.

We are eagerly awaiting the results of our other students and will post and update once they are in! For any students who are unable to pass the first round the Fire Academy has a robust and reasonable retake policy.
