Directors Spotlight Series

CRTC Enrollment Window for 16/17 Starting Up
by CRTC Director Steve Rothenberg
December marks the formal start to the CRTC’s recruitment season.  Unlike a typical public school environment, we are fueled by adding new students, mostly juniors, every year.  This process invigorates us as it pushes our organization into a competitive business-like mode to attract students.  In essence we are faced with answering big questions from potential students such as: Why come to the CRTC?  How does the CRTC stack up when compared to the other options?
The CRTC serves nine regional high schools.  The formal process for students and parents to  gain awareness over the next three months includes: a sophomore class presentation, opportunity to meet our staff at our booth during lunch blocks, Parent Night, formal CRTC Preview Days (where a student can engage in two programs), class visits, and 1:1 meetings with members of our staff.  Everything is coordinated through our office and posted online.  We also embrace the fact that our best spokespeople are current students and alumni.
As students and parents gain more knowledge of Career and Technical Education (CTE), they recognize the power of a purposeful education delivered in a modern applied manner.  Dual enrollment credits, industry certificates, work-based experience, personalized post-secondary planning, hands-on activities, and career readiness are just a few of the areas in which we excel.  Students complete our program with a highly competitive level of readiness for their postsecondary experience.  They are prepared for what comes next.
We urge all members of the CHS community to learn about the CRTC and what we offer.  It is an exciting time for us and we are eager to share our story.
